"I've been reading a great book by Gary North called the Sinai Strategy. It's old (1986), but has some intriguing ideas. Today I read a chapter on the Sabbath. North writes about the OT concept of debt cancellation every 7 years as the ancient Israelites were supposed to practice it. He says we could apply the concept today by not extending credit past 7 years on anything. How much better would our personal finances be if we followed that pattern? Further, North recommends that the government not be allowed to retain debt more than that 7 years. What would that do to the rate of inflation? How many of our corrupt, pork-barrel, incompetent government leaders would be turned out of office or bail out if they actually had to balance a budget with no debt? Sounds good to me. How about you?"
